Dr. V. S. V. Prasad (Vankayalapati Sri Venkateswara Prasad), he is from Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh, India. Excellence and a passion for success has been a way of life right from his childhood. Educated in India’s prestigious Rishi Valley School, Madanapalle, Chittoor District, he completed his pre university and university professional education in Sri Venkateswara Medical College - Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, A. P.

Throughout his M. B. B. S. career, he was an outstanding student with first ranks in University examinations in seven out of thirteen subjects, and he bagged three gold medals, and many awards and prizes of distinction. He broke many records in his university examinations in securing the highest marks ever in the history of the medical college that he studied in. Twenty five years on after he left Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati, he is still vividly remembered by his contemporaries and juniors including teachers as the best student. He is called fondly as the Gold Medal Candidate.

He chose Pediatrics as his speciality and worked very hard to secure admission into India´s prestigious and premier institute. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Despite having secured enough marks to gain admission in Andhra Pradesh state´s universities for postgraduate degrees, he turned down the offers and sacrified a whole year with a single minded focus of gaining admission into All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

His uncompromising attitude and sheer determination to scale heights of academics is reflected in his overall attitude and demeanor. Following his three year postgraduate degree programme at A. I. I. M. S. New Delhi, he chose to leave India for higher specialist training in the United Kingdom for three years, followed by four years in the United States of America. It was during his seven year stint abroad in the most developed countries of the world that he was exposed to advanced healthcare systems, technology and resources in children’s healthcare.

The very thought of returning home, to India was born way back in 1997 while he was in the United States finishing his advanced fellowship training in some of the best university teaching hospitals in the North Eastern United States. With encouragement from his family and supporters, he decided to return for good with a vision and mission of creating a world class children’s hospital in Hyderabad, incorporating the ideas, standards and culture of the west, and adopting the best practices to suit Indian conditions and work with limitations and constraints inherent to our country.

Innovation has been intuitive and instinctive to Dr. V. S. V. Prasad. The going wasn´t easy. With his initial venture in Banjara Hills becoming successful, politics in the group spoilt sport and his future ambitions were jeopardized. Disgusted with the petty mindedness of the then group, he moved on temporarily to another large corporate hospital in Secunderabad, before finally designing Lotus Children’s Hospital. Along the way, Dr. Prasad learnt the art and science of healthcare infrastructure creation, experimenting with new materials, methods and technology, with an aim of optimal utilization of financial resources.

His career path wasn’t smooth, with many unsurmountable obstacles including personal on his health front, along the way. These did not deter him, and the focus on the future, and his passion and integrity along with his extremely hardworking nature: ‘do whatever it takes to succeed attitude’ and ‘never give up attitude’ saw him cross those barriers. He is very well known all over Andhra Pradesh, and India as the ‘architect of modern advanced pediatric healthcare‘, particularly pertaining to Newborn and Children’s Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. He is highly regarded and respected amongst the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and various professional for a and he is synonymous with : excellence, highest levels of integrity, honesty and innovation.

The future

Dr. Prasad envisions children´s healthcare to become accessible to literally every child utilizing technology, innovative concepts and techniques to enable ‘affordable quality healthcare’ for children. The next phase of his career along with his group is into academics and medical research through charitable organizations primarily through their unique foundation for children: PRAANAM Children´s Foundation.

Of intense interest to him are: partnering with governmental institutions to fill in the gaps for resources, talent and education for both children´s medical, nursing and technical staff. Self sustainable models of healthcare are his future goals for children, with a focus on constant reduction of the cost of infrastructure, incorporating available energy efficient ‘green technologies’, including harnessing solar energy and and water recycling.
